Ranting about Christians

Now I know this is a very easy thing for me to do, and most times I'm just bitching about the pain inflicted on me by such evangelicals, but in this case, I think you should read the following:

I was reading on the BBC that the evangelical movement of the US has many parts of it who denounce Global Warming as a hoax, or a political battle, and has nothing to do with the current state of the earth, citing very naively that it is God who controls everything in this life. Therefore I reason that they are saying that God wants the earth to cook slowly, displacing many many people, if not indirectly claiming the lives of several hundred million people who now find their homes underneath a meter of water, asking their neighbours in vain if they can crash on the couch for the next few years until they get their rafts built.

One thing that fundamentalist Christians always seem to forget about Christianity is the most fundamental point of the whole damn thing - LOVE. Evangelicals are very quick to denounce others, brand things as evil, and happily live in their world of ignorant bliss, which of course is only for all those who can be successfully brainwashed like them, so to never have to think about anything. As long as we all behave like white people, wear plaid shirts with all the buttons done up and tucked in, with 'business casual' khaki pants, and a smart pair of leather shoes, then you go to heaven. It's that simple. (There is of course the token black person so to relieve a guilty conscience, that of course is also heavily bred into the minds of these Jesus freaks.)

(I try to refrain from insults to maintain credibility on both sides of the argument, but I just have too much trouble with that. Jesus freaks have already stopped reading this blog by now anyway.... "He's evil. We don't have to participate in anything that's evil. No. I'm not listening to you... LALALALA")

Back to the topic of LOVE. Jesus preached Love, and God (his dad, we're told) also preached Love, through Jesus, through the culmination of his life as death. (But of course, not really death death, but going to heaven death.) This happened with the message that God loved the world so much that he allowed his own son to be sacrificed on a cross, so that you know, people would then realize what love is. Hmmm... haven't picked up a bible in a while. But you know, classic John 3:16.

Trying to get back to the topic of LOVE. So if the fundamental belief of Christianity is to love God, AND to love your neighbour as yourself (equally important said Jesus), then this is where evangelicals get on my nerves, cuz everything in the Bible is open to interpretation, but they treat it like a rule book (that was arbitrarily interpreted, thousands of years ago... ok, thousands of weeks ago...) And so here's my interpretation of love and neighbour, and their relationship to Climate Change:

Your neighbour is everything.


Love your neighbour. Love your forest, love your river, love the animals that feed off of it. Yes, so it's said, God put it all there for you to do with as you please, but you can love what is yours or you can deface and destroy it. I mean, it's your choice to do that, just as it is your choice to murder, steal, and rape.

Or put it back purely on the level of loving your (human) neighbour. Your neighbour is the guy who lives next door to you, but your neighbour is also the person who lives on the other side of the world. Destroying the climate, indirectly destroys habitats, sources of water, vegetation, wildlife, etc. that these neighbours survive on. So in fact, doing nothing about climate change is an extreme act of 'non-love' to your neighbour. Not to mention just how ugly the world will eventually look.

And, for those evangelicals who don't want to accept responsibility and claim it's God's work, you are basically a) shifting 'blame' onto God (shifting blame, a very American concept); b) saying that if Global Warming is God's plan, being, to wipe out the habitats of millions of people in the next 40 years, you are not being a good advertisement for God, as you are implying that this God of love has intended to kill off these millions, because He 'has a purpose for everything', this God of love. Who are you heathen, to try to understand that?

We can sit around and pray for God to save us from the mistakes WE HAVE made to the environment, or we can just go out and solve the problem ourselves. To my knowledge, the last large scale phenomenon on earth we've credited God for was "Let there be light."
